Skin Shade Night Day
2022
0h 45m
Skin Shade Night Day explores the daily routine and rituals practised by the artist’s Cambodian-Australian family, which are reperformed and documented through a process of embodied empathy. Acts of service, such as gardening and cooking, play out as echoes from the past across a sound and image installation displayed in a shadehouse. Spectres, shadows and aural textures conjure up impressions of a place that remembers how its inhabitants once lived.

Natsu ni umareru
A filmmaker plays with diary-docu and fiction as his camera joins his ventures into a phone dating club. Bored to death, hormones running, and desperately wanting to talk to someone his own age (preferably a girl), he walks into a local phone dating club. Can he hook up with someone? Borrowing the form of a diary-movie, the director unfurls an unpredictable and imaginative look into his own persona. 8mm experimental film by Murakami Kenji, the film that made his name.

Diptera and Lepidoptera
Fully exercising the transformative potential of the close-up, Paul Clipson brings us face-to-face with the beguiling strangeness of a bee drawing nectar and a butterfly working its wings. The so-called "butterfly effect" (in which a single theoretical butterfly flapping its wings can result in a hurricane across the globe) seems freshly tangible after this installment of the COMPOUND EYES cycle. - Max Goldberg

Woolgathering
A collection of interwoven images are threaded together by a string of unspecified women who roam their dreamscape which they are unable to escape. They are displaced, belonging to no particular point in time or place, and a disoriented sense of self pervades. Together, the film becomes a quietly throbbing organism of reality and unreality, and the gaps between an impending present and a perpetual past are frail.
