After losing their academic posts at a prestigious university, a team of parapsychologists goes into business as proton-pack-toting "ghostbusters" who exterminate ghouls, hobgoblins and supernatural pests of all stripes. The film takes a similar approach to the mixing of genres; the crime film premise crosses into the realms of fantasy and horror in the course of a plot that is often self-contradictory.
